Shri Shivaji Maratha Society is established in June 1921 under the able guidance of His Highness Chhatrapati Shrimant Late Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur Sansthan. The college has a great vision and leadership to constitute a democratic doctrine for the enlightenment of mass people. The vision of our Law College, Pune - 02 is “To impart Quality Legal Education through modern knowledge and democratize Quality Higher Education in the field of Law and Justice.” Shri Shivaji Maratha Society’s Law College, Pune has decided to lead on its motto as “Bahujan Hitaya, Bahujan Sukhaya” in the interest and welfare of the common masses. Shri Shivaji Maratha Society’s Law College is established in the year 2003. The Institution has started LL.B. (Three Year Law Course) and in the year 2004 B.A.LL.B. (Five Year Law Course) The college have offered these Courses with the aim of imparting Quality Legal Professional Education to students which are coming from all strata of the society, upbringing the masses. The College also runs two Diploma Courses namely Diploma in Labour Laws and Welfare as well as Diploma in Taxation Laws. Hence, the college is in functional motion to serve for interests of students along with maintaining the standards of teaching and learning process. Similarly, leadership is decentralized to a certain extent. At the college level the Principal and teachers can take decisions on their own and certain decisions are taken and approved by the management of Shri Shivaji Maratha Society.
Internal Quality Assurance Cell and College Development Committee of college have played its important role in academic as well a financially development. At the college level IQAC and CDC to some extent, are autonomous in decision making process. However the Honorary Secretary of SSMS is an apex position to finalize economical decisions. Students have representatives in the Student Council and various committees such as Anti-Ragging Committee, Grievance Redressal Cell/Committee, Sport Committee, Cultural Committee, Moot Court Committee and committees for various programmes. Grievance Box has been fixed for complaints by students through which students can write a complaint to the Principal of college. Students’ complaints are immediately taken into the consideration for speedy justice.
To impart legal Education and Ethics within an object to set new standards for excellence and to create quality Advocates and responsible human beings rather than just degree holder is a mission for our Law College.
Bentham said very well as “Greatest happiness of greatest number of people with great pain and friction”. In our college with legal principles, values, rules and regulations, moral values, etiquettes and morality is considered for becoming a good person. So rather than legal personality we provide a good human being through one institution.
